Power in a Sedan? Powerful Sedan from Hyundai

We love the Hyundai Sonata. This is a car that’s been a favorite among the midsize sedans on the market for many years and it continues to be one that we can drive and admire every day. For most of the generations of this car, we haven’t had an exciting drive, a lot of power, or anything that would make our heart skip a beat. While you don’t expect those things from a midsize family sedan, the Hyundai team is ready to deliver them for you with a new version of the Sonata.

The Hyundai N Brand Expands

The fact that Albert Biermann works at Hyundai is enough of a reason for us to expect every model from this brand to be offered with the N performance features to give us more fun and active driving. Biermann is the mastermind behind the M performance line from BMW, which we see in nearly every model from the luxury brand, and he brought his notes and guidance to Hyundai to offer a similar result. Now that the New York Auto Show has taken place, we no longer have to wonder about a Sonata N for the future, we’ve heard from the Hyundai team that this new car is in the works.

Sharper Designs and More Power

Recently, we discussed a rendering of what the Sonata N would look like and what it might be able to do on the road. The rendering showed us a car that’s styled with a more dynamic look and a lot of sporty attributes to be the car that could be a lot of fun to drive. The long and low lines of the rendering make us want to drive this sedan and forget the fact that this is supposed to be a family car. The expected and quoted horsepower will reach over 275 for the Sonata N, which is more than enough to have a lot of fun.

Two Versions of the Sonata N Could Arrive

We’ve learned the new Sonata N will be an N-Line model which means it will have a dialed back level of performance compared to one that would be a full Sonata N for the future. That’s ok, for now, and the Hyundai team has confirmed that a turbocharged version of the 2.5-liter engine will be what’s used for the Sonata. This engine is larger than the 2.0-liter model in the Veloster N to give us more power for the drive.

The New Sonata is Coming for 2020

Expect the new 2020 Hyundai Sonata to include the N-Line model and offer the power and performance that you want to experience every day. This new sedan could change the story and give us a new chapter of a sedan driving to enjoy. We’ll certainly be looking for more information regarding the new version of the Sonata as we come closer to this new model year to arrive. Get ready, sedan driving is about to change for good.
