We Want the Genesis Coupe Back; Will We Get It?

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe was first introduced to us in 2010. This sports car blended the best that Genesis had to offer with a sporty flair to give us a car that you had to drive. The Genesis was so popular and impressive that Hyundai used the name to create the new luxury brand and with that development, the Genesis Coupe disappeared. While we can certainly admire the style, luxury, and quality of the three cars in the Genesis lineup, none of them are coupes that can give us the pure sport we’ve been longing for.

How Can You Get a Hyundai Sports Car?

Today, if you want a sports car from Hyundai, you have to look at the Veloster. This car is quirky, sporty, and offered in a variety of models. Unfortunately, even the Veloster N with the Performance Package added can’t reach the power levels we had in the Hyundai Genesis Coupe models of the past. This might not be enough of a performance car for you to have the fun you’re looking for, which might make you look elsewhere for the drive you desire, which is a bit of a tragedy.

What We Want in a Sports Coupe from Hyundai

Don’t get it wrong, the Hyundai Veloster N is a fun car to drive, but it’s not at the level of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe. This car brought us the benefits of an RWD V6 platform that offered a style that made you feel wild and free on the road. We can easily admire the current Genesis luxury sedans and the power they offer, but none of them have the pure aggression that you feel when you simply take a look at one of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe models offered before the Genesis brand arrived.

Feelings Felt in Many Ways

When the Director of Product Planning for Hyundai, Scott Margason, expresses a desire to bring a successor to the Genesis Coupe to the market, it might be time for the brand leaders to listen. His idea of what would be a fitting successor to the Hyundai Genesis Coupe is a gasoline-powered sports car. Recently, Hyundai has spent a lot of time and energy creating new electric models and hybrid versions of the vehicles offered, but it might be time to bring us a car that has the fun and energetic feeling we love of a serious sports car.

We Might Get the Hyundai We Desire

When the Hyundai team decided to offer a luxury arm and give us the Genesis brand, they filed for trademarks for the GT60 and GT90 names. This gives us the idea that we might see a couple of sports cars added to the luxury brand to offer the coupe body we want and the performance we’ve been missing. While these two won’t be wearing the Hyundai badge, they will wear the Genesis badge and could be everything we’ve been missing since the Hyundai Genesis Coupe was taken away.
