The Audi Q5 is a model that runs the gauntlet of the efficient model that gives great fuel mileage on up to a powerful supercharged version that is at lot of fun to drive on and off the road. For 2016 the Q5 adds a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel and a panoramic sunroof to the list of standard features. The Tech Package gains a Bang & Olufsen sound system and the adaptive dampening suspension is now a stand-alone option for the SQ5 Premium Plus model. This gives the Q5 more from several different angles, to continue to be a great vehicle.
Since we know there are five different models for the Q5, it stands to reason there will be five different power plants as well. All engines are attached to a high performing eight-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode and the Quattro all-wheel drive system. All version of the Q5 can also tow up to 4,400 pounds and operate on premium fuel.
The base engine for this SUV is the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine which carries in 220 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque which achieves a fuel efficiency of 20 city/28 hwy mpg. The next engine up is a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 that gives you 272 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque and allows a fuel number of 18 city/26 hwy mpg. Keep going and the power of the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 gets increased to 354 horsepower and 346 lb.-ft. of torque while offering a fuel number of 17 city/24 hwy mpg.
The hybrid power plant uses the 2.0-liter engine and adds an electric motor to the mix. With this pairing the power comes out at 245 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque while giving you a fuel number of 24 city/30 hwy mpg. The other variation is a 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel V6 engine that brings 240 horsepower and 428 lb.-ft. of torque to gives you some great low end power and a fuel efficiency number of 24 city/31 hwy mpg.
The Premium model is the base offering for the Q5 and it comes nicely equipped with a power tailgate, xenon lighting, leather seats, 18-inch wheels and tri-zone automatic climate controls. The higher models start at the Premium Plus trim with the hybrid starting at the fully loaded Prestige trim. These trim levels add niceties such as heated front seats, keyless entry, push button starting, iPod integration, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a panoramic sunroof.
The options boxes for the Q5 give you the chance to add a lot to this already feature filled vehicle. This list includes the Technology package which offers blind spot monitoring, a navigation system, Nappa leather, a 14-speaker/505-watt Bang & Olufsen sound system, a rear seat entertainment system, adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera, and the 3G network that creates a Wi-Fi hotspot and a warming/cooling cup holder. This all helps make the Q5 and even more enjoyable vehicle than before.
The Q5 is content to be the vehicle that can give you exactly what you want. It’s not boasting huge power numbers or the best off road capabilities, but it does boast some of each.
