Car

03.02.16 - 2017 Audi R8

When you hear the name Audi R8 you can immediately think of the awesome sports car that has been part of the Audi lineup for a few years now. As the calendar turned the new R8 and R8 V10 Plus have taken shape and are closer than ever to being ready for us to drive. This is one of the most power and quickest production models Audi has ever put out to give us the driving machine we want. As the mid-engine supercar from Audi the R8 will adorn many walls as a poster of desire, but for those who will make this their new vehicle for 2016, let’s see what the R8 offers.

The look of this car is similar to the previous model and the size is close to the same but this new one is a bit wider. You will notice the reshaping of some of the bodywork that is covered in carbon fiber and aluminum to help reduce weight and maintain the stiffness needed. Air can flow more freely over this new R8 and the standard R8 V10 has an auto-deploying spoiler but the R8 V10 Plus has a fixed spoiler made from carbon fiber to help keep the car planted on the ground.

This overall lighter structure is actually stronger than before to give you the stiffness needed on the track, which is where this car belongs. The overall weight loss for the car was close to 110 pounds but the rigidity was increased by 40 percent, a super achievement of engineering and use of the right materials. On the standard model the car rides on 19-inch wheels with the Plus model sitting proudly upon a set of 20-inch wheels that have some of the best track ready tires to help keep the car planted to the ground.

The aerodynamics and tires need to be able to keep the car on the ground because this new version have more power and more efficiency to give you a ride that is exhilarating and satisfying. Both models receive the 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine that makes use of direct and indirect fuel injection to give the engine some of the best performance ever. The stop/start technology is also present to increase fuel mileage by nearly ten percent, but the real story is the power which comes in at 532 horsepower and 398 lb.-ft. of torque for the base model. This allows the car to reach sixty mph in less than 3.5 seconds while enjoying a top speed of 201 mph. The Plus model cranks up the power to 601 horses and 413 lb.-ft. of torque. With this power output the car will reach sixty mph before the clock ticks off 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph is present for your driving pleasure.

What does this pair use to help harness the power? Both models make use of a seven-speed S-tronic automatic transmission with paddle shifters. This transmission also comes with launch control and a fuel saving coasting mode. Toss in the newest version of the Quattro AWD which gives this car all the control you want and need, especially with all that power sitting behind you and your one passenger.

Speaking of the inside, the R8 pair offer a cabin that is full of luxury features and racing technology. The configurable Virtual Cockpit allows you to choose the instruments you want to view so that you can see what is happening in the engine of the car. With this car you also have a navigation system and a Wi-Fi hotspot to make this a car you want to drive. The seats are covered in leather for you to feel comfortable and upscale in your new high class sports car.

The Audi R8 is certainly a car you want to drive. With every advancement you can think of and a powerful engine for you to make use of the R8 offers all the power and fun you could imagine, making you a regular at the track to show off what your car can do.
