Any Sign of Weakness can Cause and Attack

09.06.16 - 2017 Chevrolet Cruze

Watch the nature shows on TV and you will see exactly what happens when an animal is targeted a prey and shows a sign of weakness. As soon as its back is turned or its defenses are down the predator strikes and strikes hard causing severe injuries to the victim which often results in the death of the prey. This is the natural order of things in the wild regardless of how gruesome it may seem and is even an example of what can happen in the business world when one competitor falls from their platform.

For the past several years one company has stood above the rest when it comes to producing a diesel engine for small cars and SUVs. That company has been Volkswagen and their 2.0-liter and 3.0-liter diesel engines have been applauded as some of the best on the market with their quiet operation and amazing fuel mileage, nothing seemed to be able to beat them. At least that was the case until Volkswagen simply beat itself by being caught cheating on the emissions testing which led to the scandal that’s gone on for nearly a year at this point.

When this scandal was discovered the sales volume and reputation of Volkswagen were both damaged beyond repair. In a market where there have been more cars sold last year and so far this year than any other, Volkswagen has experienced a massive decline in sales due to this diesel scandal and the fact they can no longer sell vehicles with these engines in them. Now that we’re in the settlement phase of the scandal Volkswagen will need to pull its diesel models from our market by 2019 or redesign them to be completely compliant with emissions regulations set forth by the EPA.

This leaves the perfect opening for the hungry hunter to strike and turn the diesel car market into its prey. With no leading brand on the market GM is planning to step in and take over where Volkswagen left off with the diesel fans who still want a car that runs on this fuel. With this in mind the new Chevrolet Cruze will be launched as part of the 2017 model lineup as a diesel powered vehicle that will be right for the market. GM has already had success with diesel by adding it to the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, which makes this an important step down in size and performance that will need to be perfect for GM to pull this off.

The car that will carry this new diesel engine for GM is the Chevrolet Cruze and it will be powered by a 1.6-liter diesel engine. This is called the “whisper diesel” because it runs quiet, which is important when you put a diesel engine into a car. this new Cruze is expected to produce 136 horsepower and 275 lb.-ft. of torque and is aimed at those customers who previously drove the TDI from Volkswagen to give them a diesel vehicle that will be the drive they’re looking for.
