Someone at Audi was wise enough to take a step back and assess the situation to notice there’s room for at least one more A4 model.
This new A4 model is called the A4 Ultra and it offers you a ride that isn’t nearly as exciting as you receive from the standard A4 model. The Ultra version uses different mechanics to get the job done, but it’s a version of the car which gives you more of what you need if the A4 you’re looking for is to be your daily driver. In order to explain this better let’s take a look at what we have inside this new version of the A4 for the new 2017 model year.
The A4 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 220 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque while being attached to a CVT automatic transmission giving you 24 city/31 hwy mpg. This car is capable of making the sprint to sixty mph in only 6.6 seconds. Finally, the starting price of the base A4 comes in at $36,850 and goes up from there. This all sounds great, but what if I told you there was a way to save a bit of money and enjoy better overall fuel mileage in the A4.
The new A4 Ultra uses the same engine but instead of the CVT this engine is mated to a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. This allows the car to have a compression ratio of 11.7:1 versus the 9.6:1 found in the base A4 model. This higher compression ratio does result in a drop in power to 190 horsepower and 236 lb.-ft. of torque. This also slows down the sprint to sixty mph to a time of 7.1 seconds. The benefits of this change are found in the fuel mileage which is improved to 27 city/37 hwy mpg and the price which is dropped to $35,850 to start with.
This new A4 Ultra will be offered with the technology you want such as the MMI infotainment system, the Audi virtual cockpit and Audi Connect. You can also enjoy the full suite of advanced safety features with this version of the car. It sounds to me like this is a smart choice for Audi lovers who want a car that is perfect for their daily driving needs. Last I checked most of us don’t push the zero to sixty sprints on the highway and we all could use a little savings when it comes to fuel mileage, no matter the gas prices. Add the lower price and we see the A4 Ultra as a smart car for you to buy that gives you all the Audi benefits and saves you money in the process.
