GM formerly offered three visits over the course of three years, but now they will also offer only one service visit during the first year of ownership.
How Will this Help GM?
In order to boost the interest in the franchise dealership product of a prepaid maintenance program that will be offered by various dealers across the GM network, customers needed to understand they will only have the one visit as part of the package of items when buying a new vehicle. This change is in the interest of the customers because prepaid maintenance programs are more comprehensive and make it easier for customers to stay current with their maintenance program and protect the warranty of their new GM vehicle they love to drive.
What Does the Free Visit Amount to?
The current free visit, and the other two that were offered previously amounted to simply an oil change, a tire rotation, and a multi-point vehicle inspection. That’s all that was offered as it was meant for the most basic maintenance visit to the dealership. A prepaid maintenance program that covers a specific length of time or miles is created to cover the maintenance needed on a vehicle for several months. Customers will pay a lot less for a GM maintenance program at the dealership that is already paid for than to incur the cost of all the maintenance visits that will be required to keep the warranty active.

For the two premium brands from GM, which are Cadillac and Buick, you’re still going to have the benefits of a six-year/70,000-mile powertrain warranty when you purchase a new model.
