Most of the GMC models on the market can be driven on and off the roads that we drive every day, but a GMC Canyon ZRX could be on the way.
The rugged build and premium quality offered by GMC gives us something different from what Chevrolet offers to make it possible to have comfort and capability in one impressive vehicle. Recently, a patent application has been filed by GM to bring a street-focused version of the GMC Canyon to the market to give us a truck that doesn’t need to be taken on the trails at all.
Will We See the GMC Canyon ZRX?
The name “ZRX” is what the patent application contains and it’s a name that GMC has used in the past for another truck. The early 2000s gave us a street-focused limited-production version of the GMC Sonoma pickup truck. This truck originally gave us the 4.3-liter V6 engine and a four-speed automatic transmission that pushed the power to the rear wheels. This truck came with a street-tuned suspension with special shocks, unique body decals, bed rails, and a few other items that made it stand out when you saw it on the road. There was a Chevy twin which was the CS10 Xtreme model to give us a pair that we could drive.
Not Much Information Yet
Unfortunately, the application for the patent didn’t contain any artwork to show us what this new truck could be or what a Canyon ZRX might look like or include. Even so, we could guess what this truck might have when it comes to the market if it ever does. You can expect the Canyon ZRX to be a rear-drive model that has a lowered suspension that brings you a lot of the items you want including a tonneau cover, bed rails, and the decals that you would expect.
What Engine Might We See?
Even though we won’t likely see a significant performance upgrade if the GMC Canyon ZRX is created, this truck could house the new 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s used in the most recent version of the Chevy Silverado. This engine is good for 310 horsepower and 348 lb.-ft. of torque and it seems that it could be the right fit for the truck that you want to drive and enjoy on the road. With this power, the Canyon might become a truck that you want to take to the track to show off on weekends for some fun.
A GMC Canyon ZRX with More of What You Want
When you’re not looking for the power of a truck but you want to drive a truck to be able to handle truck stuff, the GMC Canyon is an excellent choice. Having a model that can give you more fun and power while being tuned for the roads rather than for off-road work, makes this new Canyon ZRX a choice that would make a lot of sense. There might be a big market for this new model, but the only way that we’ll find out is if GM decides to bring it to a GMC dealer near you in the near future.
