Rolls-Royce Previews Its $400k Electric Car

Rolls-Royce Previews Its 400k Electric Car

Just when you thought there couldn’t be any showstopping announcements about electric cars left in 2022, Rolls-Royce took the stage with jaw-dropping news. This luxury brand announced its first-ever electric vehicle, and it’s going to be amazing.

The Spectre, the first of potentially several electric cars to come from this automaker, is expected to go into production late in 2023. Shoppers should anticipate spending $400k to bring one of these innovative electric cars home.

Here’s what we know so far:

A Fresh But Recognizable Look

The Spectre is a two-door coupe that uses rear-hinged suicide doors. The fast-track body and doors will remind you of Rolls-Royce’s popular Wraith. Even though this EV is only a two-door rig, it’s longer than the Rolls-Royce Cullinan but shorter than the Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Otherwise, you’ll recognize the infamous grille, headlights, and logo that lets everyone know that this ride is a Rolls-Royce. According to this company’s CEO, Torsten Muller-Otvos, the “Spectre possesses all the qualities that have secured the Rolls-Royce legend. This incredible motor car, conceived from the very beginning as our first fully-electric model, is silent, powerful, and demonstrates how perfectly Rolls-Royce is suited to electrification.”

Luxurious Electric Power

We don’t know if the Spectre will be rear-wheel or all-wheel-drive, but Rolls-Royce claims the total power output should hit 576 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. Drivers can expect to go from zero to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. While this is double the time it takes the Tesla Model S Plaid to do the same run, Rolls-Royce has always been more about quiet cruising than thrilling speed. The fact that the Spectre will move so fast is just a testament to the ground-breaking tech that is going into the luxury car.

Internal testing to date suggests that the Spectre will have an electric driving range of 260 nearly silent miles. Engineers went above and beyond to make this one of the quietest electric cars are the market. It comes with an adaptive suspension and a ton of sound-deadening material to keep the cabin as quiet as your local library.

Sophistication Inside and Out

The Spectre offers four bucket seats across its two rows. Otherwise, the cabin is set to be very similar to other Rolls-Royce rigs. Of course, there are a few unique features that will help this car stand out.

For example, drivers will recognize the signature starry-night headliner, but the doors feature a similar twinkle with small LED lights adding a sparkle to the areas around the armrests.

There’s Still More to Learn

Rolls-Royce hasn’t officially announced a starting price or what kinds of trims and options exist on the Spectre, but there’s plenty of reason to believe it will offer more than enough ways to personalize it.

Other than maybe the new Cadillac Celestiq, there aren’t many electric cars in the same luxury class as the Spectre. Now we just have to wait for it to become available to bring home.
