Ferrari finally entered a part of the market it had avoided. The first Ferrari SUV hit the streets recently, but it’s not your typical SUV.
Do you expect anything less from Ferrari? The Purosangue is a bold 5-door vehicle that barely provides the qualities that make it an SUV. Still, this lifted and bulbous Ferrari fills an area of the market that Ferrari previously scoffed at. It seems the Prancing Horse brand finally saw the proverbial writing on the wall, seeing how successful Lamborghini and Porsche have been in the SUV world.
What does the Ferrari Purosangue offer? Here are a few things.
Big power from a massive engine
Making an SUV didn’t tame the Ferrari team at all. In fact, the new Purosangue hits the market with an incredibly powerful 6.5-liter V12 engine that produces 715 horsepower and 528 lb-ft of torque. This naturally aspirated engine might not be offered for many years, but at least it’s part of the first-ever Ferrari SUV. This impressive engine mates with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to send power to all four wheels and deliver smooth shifting performance.
It’s a Ferrari; it must be fast
The new Purosangue must be fast in order to be worthy of the Ferrari badge. This incredible new vehicle is capable of hitting 60 mph in only 3.3 seconds on its way to a top speed of 192 mph. This is slightly faster than the Lamborghini Urus Performante and Bentley Bentayga. It seems Ferrari is throwing down the gauntlet for other high-performance SUVs to follow. Only the Aston Martin DBX 707 is faster than the Purosangue, and that’s by only one mph.
FAST means something more
Yes, the Purosangue is fast, but FAST also stands for the Ferrari Active Suspension Technology, which is part of this new Ferrari SUV. This system can lower the center of gravity, control pitch and roll stiffness while accelerating, balance the handling, and increase driving pleasure. This advanced suspension system optimizes contact between the tire and road surface to improve grip in the corners, making this SUV extremely capable. Drivers can enjoy the confidence of knowing the Purosangue won’t roll or let loose when pushed hard.
The doors are different
Call them suicide doors or coach doors; either way, the doors of this new Ferrari open using a rear-hinged function. This might remind you of extended cab pickup trucks that require the front door to be opened before the rear doors can allow entry or exit. These doors allow the Purosangue to be sporty and stylish while maximizing the spaciousness of the cabin. Using rear-hinged doors means this Ferrari has space for adult-sized passengers in the rear while maintaining a sports car-like appearance, which makes it one of the most aggressive-looking SUVs in the market.
Pure Italian goodness in the cabin
The doors open to a fantastic, upscale, stylish, and elegant interior area that fits the Ferrari Purosangue personality. This incredible interior includes four stylish seats that hint at sportiness while remaining comfortable. The driver enjoys a cockpit-like environment with controls within easy reach. The glass roof of this Ferrari SUV provides an airy and open feeling that passengers are sure to love. Both rows of seats are separated by center consoles, making this the ideal SUV for two high-earning couples to enjoy a night on the town.
Those seats do everything
The Purosangue has four comfortable sports seats that could be great for long road trips. They don’t appear to have traditional cushioning, but when you experience the power adjustments, heating, and massaging functions, you’ll see how impressive these seats can be. The front seats are the only ones that have the massaging feature, but passengers can switch positions so everyone can enjoy the comfort. There are five different types of massage and three levels of intensity to make the driver and front passenger comfortable and relaxed during the ride.
A roof that makes this Ferrari lighter
The full glass sunroof offered for the Ferrari Purosangue is an optional feature. This Ferrari SUV comes standard with a carbon fiber roof panel that helps keep the weight down, making this SUV more fun and active on the road and track. This weight-saving device helps ensure the SUV rides like a Ferrari sports car. The handling is also improved when this SUV is equipped with a set of low-provide tires that are 22 inches in the front and 23 inches at the rear.
Could the new Ferrari Purosangue be the Ferrari SUV you’ve always dreamed about? Take a look for yourself.
