More Power in a Car That Begs for it

11.09.16 - 2016 Ford Mustang GT

We’ve known there were secrets lying under the hood of Ford vehicles with the EcoBoost engines, but we weren’t exactly sure how to unlock these secrets. The word has been out for a while to let us know that we could tune these engines up to have more power output from under the hood, but there was never any official word as to how we could accomplish this task and create the power we wanted to enjoy. Now, the secret is no more and the performance you can enjoy is being shared so that you can improve at least one EcoBoost engine.

The Mustang models from 2015 and newer can take advantage of a great increase in power and the best part is that it’s covered under the manufacturer warranty. This new calibration kit can be used on the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine to bring the power to 335 horsepower and the torque to 390 lb.-ft. That’s an increase of 70 lb.-ft. of torque and the improvement for the horsepower really shows up with the engine is pushed to 6,000 rpm where it will produce 100 horsepower more than the standard engine at this rotation speed.

These calibration kits aren’t limited to the EcoBoost engines, although we know this engine was made to be tuned up right from the start. The 5.0-liter V8 engines can also receive a performance calibration kit to increase the power by 37 horsepower to give the car a full 472 ponies. This also comes with a redline that higher, making it easier to push this engine harder than ever. Another improvement to this engine is a no-lift shift system which allows the throttle to remain depressed while shifting gears in those Mustangs that have a manual transmission, making it much easier to continue acceleration while driving.

Of course there are more options for an increase of power for the Mustang. Ford has a tendency to offer you a wide variety of items for you to enjoy improved performance to make your car a unique model. The other options for the V8 model of the Mustang include a high-flow air filter that helps to boost power by 13 horsepower and 16 lb.-ft. of torque while a second pack adds a cold air intake, a larger throttle bod and a new open air filter that will increase the power by 21 horsepower and 24 lb.-ft. of torque.

These upgrades are available for both the automatic and manual transmission models of the Mustang and are able to be put into cars in all fifty states and still meet the emissions regulations. With these upgrades and the fact that they’re covered under warranty, it seems like a no brainer to have these improvements put in to your Mustang to give you the power you want from this awesome car. With these upgrades under the hood, you’ll be able to have even better track times that you had in the past and show off with the improved power to your friends and neighbors.
