The TDI Models are Making a Comeback

The TDI Models are Making a Comeback

If you thought the TDI models offered in the US were dead and never to return, you might actually be wrong in some cases. The Volkswagen models that are offered for sale were thought to be only those that run on gasoline or use hybrid powertrains after the scandal that took place nearly two years ago. While the vehicles offered with the GTI engines and the regular gasoline engines are great to drive, this has left us longing for the old performance of the TDI models that we loved on the road for several years.
Thankfully, but only for a short time and with an extremely limited inventory, some TDI models are now being offered for sale once again. These vehicles that have the Generation 3 engines that were considered to be the offending models are now certified and able to offer us a few that can be bought and driven. This is possible because of the fix that Volkswagen put into their TDI models that were slightly used and made right for the drive. This fix was finally approved in January of this year and is now offered to make a huge difference on the road in order to be the car that some will want to drive.
Knowing you might be able to purchase a TDI model might make you think you’d be able to have a great drive at a low price, but that’s not necessarily the case. These 2015 models of the TDI VW models are being sold at close to their original MSRP because of the high demand and low inventory. While we now know these cars have been fixed to be approved for sale in the US once again, the low inventory of them on the market is making it possible for these cars to be right for the drive.
There may only be a handful of dealers that still have a few of these models in stock which makes it hard to get hold of one. One dealership has even reported that none of the TDI models they have in stock have made it through prep and cleaning before making it to the lot for sale. While most of the TDI models that were bought back by VW will be destroyed, there are a few that are being resold in order to make them a choice that some want to make.
One aspect of relief in the price that might take place in the near future is the fact that more of these models are expected to be offered on the market in the near future and will be able to be sold. There is a demand for these cars and as more are offered the prices can fall in line with used models, but until then, if you want to drive one of the TDI models from VW you can pick up one of these fixed modes but you need to prepared to pay nearly the full original price of what was offered on the road.
