5 Cars We Are Looking Forward To In 2023

The near future of the automotive industry seems destined for change as many automakers are moving to electrified lineups. However, gas vehicles aren’t anywhere near dead yet, and there are some next-generation models due out next year, including the next-gen GMC Terrain for the 2024 model year. Let’s take a look at five interesting cars that should be out in 2023.

2024 GMC Terrain

GM is currently working on the next generation of the GMC Terrain. Like the Chevy Equinox, the Terrain is in one of the largest and most competitive segments for SUVs. It’s not clear yet whether the next generation of Terrain will be available for the 2024 or 2025 model year. If it’s ready for the 2024 model year, then it’s likely that it will debut in late 2023 or possibly early 2024. If it isn’t ready until the 2025 model year, then it’s likely we won’t see it until 2024. Right now, the Terrain is one of the hottest-selling models under the GMC brand.

BMW X8

The BMW X8 is another highly-anticipated new vehicle that will sport an internal combustion engine. The X8 is a full-size SUV, but it’s also essentially the coupe version of the X7. It is expected to feature a few different powertrains, including an inline-six, a V8, and possibly a mild hybrid system. The striking sporty appearance of the X8 comes at the expense of the third row of seats and some cargo space. Sales for the X8 should start in 2023.

Chevrolet Corvette C8 Z06

The C8 Z06 is ready now, but it won’t be out to customers until around 2023. The Z06 is the hotter version of the original C8 Corvette that debuted a few years ago with a mid-engine layout. The Z06 ditches the 6.2-liter pushrod V8 in exchange for a 5.5-liter V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft that sounds more like a Ferrari than a Corvette. This new powertrain generates 670 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. The transmission remains the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic from the previous version. Production for the new Z06 started in the summer of 2022, but the car won’t be widely available until 2023.

Toyota GR Corolla

Toyota seems to be having a lot of fun in the Gazoo Racing division as they produce one exciting new model after another. The GR Supra, GR86, and GR Yaris came first, but now Toyota has unveiled a GR Corolla that could be the most exciting hot hatch of 2023. The GR Corolla comes with a tuned version of the 1.6-liter inline-three that came with the GR Yaris. It will make 300 horsepower and is only paired with a six-speed manual.

Mazda MX-5 Miata ND3

An updated ND3 Miata will go on sale in 2023. The ND3 only weighs in at 2,028 pounds, which is over 100 pounds lighter than the ND2. It’s possible the ND3 will come with a downsized 1.2-liter engine, but the 2.0-liter and 1.5-liter engines won’t be discontinued just yet. The Miata will still come with a six-speed manual transmission. It’s expected that a fully-electric Miata will arrive by 2025.

What Upcoming Cars are Catching Your Eye?

2023 should see a wide variety of new models of both the gas and electric variety, as well as plenty of updates and new generations.
