Made for the Trails; Driving on the Roads

05.19.17 - Porsche Macan

Why do we buy luxury SUVs? Is it so that we can have a higher class of vehicle to take on the trails and toss around out in the wilderness? If you’ve ever seen the repair bill for a luxury SUV after its been out on the paths without pavement you’d be shocked and never want to take it on the trails again. The reality is you can probably purchase a mainstream trail rider that you don’t mind beating up for the same price as the repair bill. Most of these vehicles are made for the off road adventures but will spend all their time driving on the roads, and that’s exactly where we love them. Here are some of the impressive luxury SUV that make you the soccer parent of your neighborhood.

Range Rover – The Range Rover models from the Land Rover brand offer you several ways to have the luxury and off road features you want to enjoy. In fact, these luxury SUVs have been known as some of the best off the road, but most of the Range Rover SUVs you see will be on the road shuffling kids from one practice to another or running the family errands.

Bentley Bentayga – Are you going to take an SUV that costs over $200,000 on the trails just to see what it can do? Of course not; even though this SUV offers you a 6.0-liter 12-cylinder engine with 600 horsepower and 664 lb.-ft. of torque you’re more likely to enjoy this SUV on the roads and not worry about taking it to the trails at all. This is an SUV that carries prestige for your enjoyment.

Lamborghini Urus – While not on the market as of yet, the Urus is one of the most hotly anticipated SUVs and it will make its way to the market for the 2018 model year. You’ll love wat this big beast can do and it will certainly come as a limited run model with a high price tag. The look is that of a lifted hatchback that has all the Lambo style and performance you could ever desire.

Mercedes-Benz G65 AMG – Its big, its square and it can certainly handle the job of going over trees and rocks in the wilderness. The only problem with this big brute is the price and you won’t want to see this vehicle messed up by a few rocks on the trails. Even so you the V12 engine under the hood provides 621 horsepower and 738 lb.-ft. of torque to give you all the power you’d ever want.

Porsche Macan – The Macan is the SUV for the 911 crowd that now has more people in the family that want to ride along. This is a small crossover SUV that sits well as a sporty vehicle that can still deliver the speed and the power you want in a Porsche. There’s no denying this vehicle isn’t going on any trails in the near future at all.

Cadillac XT5 – This is the replacement for the midsized SRX and it offers us a new platform and an amazing ride in a luxury model. The truth is you might be willing to take this SUV on some trails, but it’s built to be on the roads and won’t feel as comfortable as some of the other SUVs on this list. Regardless, the XT5 is a comfortable and impressive luxury SUV that you’ll love to drive.

Mercedes-Benz GLC – At this size the utility part of SUV is pretty much lost. This is a vehicle you buy when you want more space and size than a sedan but you don’t want the ability to head off road. The GLC rides like the sedan you drove in the past but it gives you the added benefit of being a great luxury ride for you.

Lexus LX 570 – You could head off the roads in this big brute and it does have the towing capacity of up to 7,000 pounds along with an impressive 4WD system. The LX 570 is extremely similar to the Toyota Land Cruiser, but this still won’t be an SUV you take on the trails for fear of damaging a vehicle that cost more than $80,000.

Jaguar F-Pace – Here is an SUV that offers you the ride quality of a Jag while giving you the space inside for the family. This is an fun and active SUV to drive but it’s only at home on the roads and isn’t one that will take on the trails and give you any satisfaction at all. Even so, this Jag is fun and right for the ride on the roads in your area.
