The 718 Cayman is a Thing of Beauty

Porsche has made it known that the 718 engine will be used in a variety of ways, but that doesn’t mean that the vehicles will suffer at all for using this smaller engine in fact the use of the 718 setup is meant to give the Porsche lineup even more fun and allow us to once again admire how well Porsche can do with making the absolute most benefit from the engineering that they use in their vehicles. With that in mind, the Cayman and Cayman S for 2017 will carry the 718 engine and are ready for us to enjoy them. (more…)

If you want to have a great vehicle to take on the trails and into the wilderness as you blaze your own version of the trails you need something tough, rugged, capable and powerful to get the job done. 2017 Subaru Outback: More than what You See

For years the Subaru Outback has been mired and admired by the thought that it wasn’t a real SUV. Much like Pinocchio, the Outback has many features of an SUV, but it also has the size and shape of a wagon. While this vehicle screams out “I’m a real SUV” it seems to still be a vehicle that we’ve admired for many years as it has built a nearly cult following of shoppers who love to drive the Outback and won’t choose anything else. This could be because of exactly what you get when you drive this beautifully confused vehicle. (more…)

2017 Volkswagen Passat: Standing Alone in a Crowd

The midsize car segment has been littered with models for many years that have come from a variety of places. You see models from American, Japanese and Korean brands that are made to give you a fantastic menu of vehicles to choose from, but there is one lone European model that’s part of the mainstream midsize car segment, the Volkswagen Passat. This is a car that offers you the driving manners you’ve been looking for and the features that make it one of the most impressive midsize cars on the market today. (more…)

What did BMW bring to Paris?

BMW has been working on the X2, we know this because spy shots have been shared on many different automotive websites, but they chose to bring a concept model of the new X2 to the Paris Motor Show to give us a look at what will be their next luxury compact crossover model. This SUV came in bathed in a red-orange paint with gray cladding on the sides to give it a dramatic look and the appearance of an SUV up front and a sports coupe in the back to make the X2 ad combination vehicle that you want to pay close attention to. Volkswagen Shows off the Concept Version of the New Beetle

That’s what most have chosen to call this new concept car because the Volkswagen download file is titled “Beetle” but there hasn’t been an official announcement of the name. The simple reality is that this new concept car will be the first vehicle built on the new Modular Electric Platform from Volkswagen called MEB. This car showed up at the Paris Auto Show to give the beleaguered brand a new drive and a new direction to change the course of their own history. Volkswagen is so excited by this new model they’ve said it will revolutionize the industry in the same way the Beetle actually did over seventy years ago. (more…)

A Five-Cylinder You Can Love

Most of the time the cylinder numbers in our vehicles come in even numbers. This allows for the balanced firing of pistons to help avoid the vibrations that would reach the cabin and cause driving to be unbearable. Much like the advancements that are being made in the world of turbocharging and added horsepower while creating lighter vehicles, now we have vehicles that are more capable of using an odd number of cylinders while still returning some great power and performance to give you the feeling you want in a car that has an odd cylinder setup. 2017 Porsche Macan: The Sporty SUV You Want

We have seen many varieties of vehicles on the market and with the move toward smaller SUVs that are closer in size to the wagon and sedans we’re used to driving we now see SUVs that are being turned into sports cars, or at least a derivative of the sports car market. The Porsche Macan is built on a sports car platform, by a sports car brand to be an SUV that offers you the space you want in a taller vehicle but the capability of a Porsche sports car. This blend is exactly what we want in the market and with Porsche having the first one they are well ahead of Jaguar with the F-Pace and Maserati with the Levante. (more…)

When You Get Excited About Engines

If you love grease under your nails and the smell of fumes around the garage you might be a gearhead. If you happen to enjoy the turning f a wrench and understand what compression ratios mean in an engine you might be a gearhead. When you’re more likely to give your wife a small block V8 for her birthday than a necklace you might be a gearhead (and a soon to be divorced one unless your wife’s a gearhead as well). (more…)

Another Model We Don’t Get

This is getting a bit ridiculous? European automakers have for years left out the US when it comes to some of their models, usually because of the stricter regulations that have to be met to be offered on our roads. It seems that cars which are smaller wouldn’t have a problem functioning in the US, but Audi has a car that once again won’t be offered to the North American market. This should come as no real surprise since the stablemates aren’t either. This new model is the RS1 and it is expected to be sold in Europe starting in 2018. (more…)
