When this new Mazda SUV hit the market to replace the outgoing CX-9, it not only came with a new 6-cylinder engine but also Mazda’s first PHEV powertrain. How much power does this Mazda SUV produce?

The new 3.3-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine that produces 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque in its standard form. This engine mates to an 8-speed automatic transmission to provide impressive shift points and a smooth ride. Like many Mazda vehicles, the CX-90’s powertrain reaches maximum torque early in the rev range.

The Turbo S models use the same powertrain as the lower trims but increase power to 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Every version of this Mazda SUV comes with standard AWD and the ability to tow up to 5,000 pounds.

The plug-in hybrid powertrain features a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and an electric motor to deliver 323 horsepower and 369 lb-t of torque to the wheels. This PHEV setup allows the CX-90 to drive for 26 miles using only electricity, making this model the most efficient of the three powertrains.
