Strength and Style: Unveiling the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD

The 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 HD comes in a long list of trims and configurations. It’s a towing beast with up to 17,200 pounds of towing and 4,519 pounds of payload.

You can get it for as low as $46,000 MSRP for the base 2WD SRW regular cab model, but the range goes as high as $99,800 for the Denali Ultimate 4WD DRW crew cab model.

Overview of the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD

For 2024, the GMC Sierra 3500HD features more power and torque for the diesel engine among trucks for sale as well as an upgraded transmission for the gas engine. The interior has been remodeled for a nicer layout and more attractive materials. Some negatives to consider for this truck include the lack of Super Cruise, stodgy exterior styling, and less towing power than the Ram 3500. However, the GMC Sierra 3500HD is the only truck from the brand that can be had with dual rear wheels. The current generation was introduced in the 2020 model year and enjoys a full refresh for 2024.

New Features Take Center Stage

Even though the GMC Sierra 3500HD’s exterior styling is still a bit stodgy, it has been updated for 2024 and new wheel and paint options are available. On the other hand, the interior has been significantly restyled and offers more tech than before. The gas V8 engine now uses a 10-speed automatic instead of the previous six-speed. The diesel engine now has more power and torque as well as better engine braking. Finally, more safety features are standard and adaptive cruise control is newly available.

Where the GMC Sierra 3500HD Shines

Before this refresh, the Sierra 3500HD’s unimpressive interior and six-speed transmission were definitely holding it back from being a truly quality choice in the segment. Adding the Allison 10-speed transmission improves the gas engine immensely. It now has enough gears to tow and haul as it should.

On the inside, the Sierra HD looks very attractive with a more user-friendly layout and a long list of tech features that come standard or can be added. Various luxury and convenience features are also available.

RWD is standard on most Sierra HD models, with 4WD optional. The Denali and AT4 models come standard with 4WD. Two 6.6-liter engines are offered on this 3500HD truck. One is the previously mentioned gas V8, the other is a turbodiesel Duramax. Both use the 10-speed automatic transmission. Power output is 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque for the gas engine and 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque for the diesel.

Impressive High-End Denali Ultimate Trim

Denali Ultimate is the new name that denotes the highest-end vehicles for GMC. The Sierra 3500 HD offers this trim at the top of the range and it’s fully decked out in all the upscale and luxury features you would expect. It has 20-inch wheels, premium leather, wood, and microfiber trim in the cabin, dark chrome exterior trim, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system.

The GMC Sierra 3500HD was already a competitive truck, but the new improvements for 2024 make it an even better choice in the segment.
