Chevrolet Sonic Named Top Safety Pick For 2015 By IIHS

2015 Chevrolet Sonic

Each year the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety (IIHS) performs tests to see which vehicles are the safest on the road. Chevrolet is proud to announce that the 2015 Chevrolet Sonic was named as one of those vehicles for 2015. Customer safety has always been an important concern to General Motors and they strive to make safety a priority on every vehicle they build and put on the road.

Changes in the front end of the Sonic’s structure, door sill, and door pillar on the 2015 model allowed the car to perform well in the Small Overlap Front Crash Protection Test. It gave the Sonic a rating of “good” which is the IIHS’s highest available rating in each test administered. It also received a “good” rating in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint tests, which are all tests required in order to receive the offer of Top Safety Pick.

Sonic received good ratings across the board for all five tests administered by the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety’s crash worthiness evaluations. Sonic delivers safety for drivers and occupants for the most common type of crashes for a smaller car. Sonic is the only car in the small vehicle segment offering 10 airbags standard, which include knee airbags for the driver and passenger. Sensors throughout Sonic determine which airbags will deploy depending upon impact.

If Sonic were to be involved in a significant crash, its strong body structure was designed to absorb crash energy and provide a safety “cage” around its occupants. More than 60% of Sonic’s frame is made out of steel making it strong and safe to drive. It also features options like Forward Collision Alert, and Lane Departure Warning to help drivers be more aware of their surroundings and help avoid collisions when possible.

Chevrolet has strived to be a dominant player in the industry and has done that by not only ingenuity and engineering, but by safety features, technology, and design. Chevrolet has been building vehicles since 1911 in Detroit Michigan, and has continued to grow around the world and provide top class vehicles that meet the demands of today’s consumer.
