Off Roading, But Not in a Wrangler

09.27.16 - 2014 Jeep Wrangler

It’s the king of the outdoors, the simple and long admired Jeep Wrangler, but not everyone is a Jeep lover. Some people would love to have a great off roading vehicle and might not appreciate the simplicity or the rough riding that is part of the Wrangler experience. Whether you want some luxury added to your off roader or you need to know you have a compliant SUV that can handle the roads as much as the trails, here are some that will certainly fit that bill for you.

Mercedes-Benz G550Most likely if you’re shopping in this category you weren’t considering the Wrangler in the first place. The G550 is an amazing luxury vehicle that brings in the looks of a box on wheels with plenty of space and a ride height that is awesome. You can’t argue its abilities as it offers you three locking differentials and plenty of power to get the job done.

Land Rover Range RoverWhile the Wrangler plays well on any terrain it’s not even a match for the Range Rover. This is another model that’s a lot more expensive than the Wrangler, but it also offers you more of what you want in terms of on road manners. Land Rover knows most of these vehicles never leave the streets and it built them to be great everywhere.

Jeep Grand Cherokee TrailhawkThe Grand Cherokee is one of the most popular Jeep models because of its space and fit into a family lifestyle. The Trailhawk package adds more all-terrain performance than the other models to give you a great balance on and off the road. This is the perfect vehicle when you aren’t looking to spend what a Range Rover costs.

Toyota 4Runner TRD ProThe 4Runner continues to impress with over thirty years in production and the drive we want to have on the trails. The TRD Pro package brings in the locking differential needed along with Bilstein shocks and the looks you want when you have a vehicle that’s made to hit the trails and hit them hard.

Toyota Land CruiserLarge and looming the Land Cruiser is a place you can call your home on wheels. This is one of the true Range Rover competitors, giving you a place that offers the luxury and space you want. The Lexus LX is built on the same platform to give you a vehicle that’s highly capable and full of additional luxury features for you to enjoy.

Ford F-150 RaptorYou might not pit the Raptor against the Wrangler in most cases, but it should be. The new Raptor offers room for four doors worth of passengers and a large bed for all the gear. With the active off roading capabilities of this truck you can take it wherever you want to go and know you’ll make it back to where you came from.

RAM Power WagonDon’t let the name confuse you, this is a heavy duty truck that’s made to tear up the trails and recreate the landscape wherever it goes. Ram has taken this truck a step farther than before with some seriously angry looks and one of the highest ground clearances right from the factory that you’ll ever find.

Nissan Titan XD Pro-4X DieselIt’s hard to argue with the torque of a diesel engine. This big Cummins V8 sounds massive and powerful and it certainly is. When you need to crawl over rocks, logs or through the mud and need to take it slow this is a truck that keeps on pushing through with the power you want from under the hood.

Chevrolet Colorado Trail BossNot to be left out the Colorado gives us a midsize truck that is perfect for carving up the mountains and the desert. This beast of the off road is made to take on the challenges of any uncharted territories as it makes its way across the hills and trails you find in your area. As a smaller pickup this truck can easily go where the SUVs go.

Subaru OutbackIt would be remiss of us to leave out the Subaru Outback. This SUV has grown from the lifted wagon look to be a fully compliant and attractive SUV that has been trusted by many Subaru enthusiasts on the lighter trails and certainly as the vehicle of choice when you need something to get through the rain and snow.
