What seems to be one of the greatest ways that we can celebrate the success and fame of a person or organization? Over the course of history, or at least since postage stamps were used to send letters and packages around the world the most famous or influential people have been commemorated on stamps. We’ve seen events and historical figures on these stamps and we celebrate them on an annual basis with a variety of holiday style stamps as well. There have been a number of cars that have made their way to stamps over the years as well and one, in particular, is being honored.
The 2017 model year markets the sixtieth year in existence for the Fiat 500. This little car is one of the most famous small cars on the market and is one that has been prominently enjoyed around the world. As the hatchback that has a global influence Fiat has decided to celebrate this little car with a special model that we can know is the right one for some to drive that love this car. This anniversary edition comes with special features that signify it’s a model that celebrates this event, but what about the country it came from?
The country of Italy has also chosen to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the Fiat 500 with a special commemorative stamp. This stamp is one that shows the original Fiat 500 with the new model superimposed over it. These two cars, one over the other, are put on a field of blue that stands out extremely well. At the top of the stamp, the Italian flag colors make the three stripes going across it to show that this is an Italian original and one that is certainly worthy of the being honored with a stamp.
Near the top of the stamp, cutting the flag stripes in the middle is the same font that was used sixty years ago to advertise the Fiat 500 and those words that told us this is a new car with the “fiat Nuova 500” to let those in Italy know they should come and buy this car. The stamp is being sold for 0.95 Euro which might shock those that have to pay for it, but this stamp will only be printed in one million copies making it stamp that collectors will want to enjoy and add to their pages of collecting.
The celebration of this postage stamp was done in a postmarking ceremony that included several leaders in Italy and from FCA. Those in attendance included Ivan Scalfarotto, the Italian deputy minister for economic development, Alfredo Altavilla, COO of FCA EMEA and Oliver Francios the head of Fiat Brand and many others from FCA. This was a celebration of the honor and certainly gave this crowd in attendance a reason to celebrate the commemoration of this historic car.
You might never expect a small hatchback to make its way to a postage stamp level of honor, but sixty years is well worthy of the honor. Making this even more impressive is the fact that this car is an Italian model that made such an impact in a country full of supercars is certainly something of an impressive accomplishment.
