Just How Cool is the Ford GT

Just How Cool is the Ford GT

When you want the car that has Le Mans heritage built into the drive, the Ford GT is the supercar you’ll want to drive.

This has to be the absolute coolest car that’s made by one of the Big Three American Automakers right now. With a sticker price that puts it in the same class as many European exotic supercars, you’ll see that this car is in good company.

This Car Just Isn’t Normal

You can’t find a supercar and then call it normal; the two things do not coincide. This Ford is powered by an amazing engine, but it’s not what you expect from a supercar. What you’ll find is a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine that has been tuned to produce 647 horsepower and 550 lb.-ft. of torque. You can rocket to 215 mph in this car which is made to carve up every track in the world.

A Pair of GT Performance Models

When it comes to the Ford GT, you have a pair of cars that make you drive right in different ways. This car bears the burden of history and is made in America, which is something truly special about this amazing car. There’s a road-going version and a racing model, which were designed simultaneously by the Ford Performance team to give you one of the most glorious supercars ever to take a run at the track.

This Car is Really Expensive; Not Bugatti Expensive But…

Most of the supercars in the market are going to offer you a price point that’s lower than that of the GT. This car will cost you $450,000 if you want to take it for a drive. This is also a car that’s being made in limited numbers with only 250 models per year for four years to give the world 1,000 versions of this extremely cool car. By comparison, you could have a McLaren 729S for $288,475 or a Ferrari 812 Superfast for $319,000.

The Name of the Game is in the Aerodynamics

A powerful engine can only do so much to get you around the track in a hurry. You need serious aerodynamics, and the Ford GT delivers. This car is all about airflow. Ford studied how the air would move over, around, and under this car to give it the best shape to cut through the air and give you the downforce needed to stick to the track.

The Suspension Gives You the Driving Height You Need

To go along with the aerodynamics of this incredible sports car, you’ll be glad to have the hydraulically-actuated pushrod suspension that can raise or lower the car 70 millimeters in track and V-MAX modes to give you the driving position you’re looking for on the track. The wing can extend over the tail to give the air an easy way to flow through the massive body underwing to allow the car to stick to the ground.

A Racing Tradition Renewed

The original Ford GT40 was a sports car that had a single goal in mind. That car was made to beat the Ferrari teams at Le Mans, and it did so several times in the 1960s. The latest version of the GT is back on the track in the Ganassi Racing program, where it has dominated at Sebring, Daytona, and Le Mans over the course of a year.

The Road Version has a Real Roll Cage

Many other supercars that are made for travel on the road do not offer a roll cage. The fact that you can either take this car out on the track or rocket on the roads in Europe as fast as you want makes the addition of a roll cage in the road version an important factor. You could drive from track to track in America and enjoy the added safety and security of this feature in your car.

Forget Turbo Lag in the Ford GT

The EcoBoost engine of this Ford has a pair of turbochargers attached to it, but that doesn’t translate to any form of turbo lag when you drive this car. This system uses charged air to keep the turbos moving at all times, which means you’ll have the torque you need whenever you need it. You won’t have to wait for the air to charge before you can enjoy the smooth performance of this amazing car.

A New Version Has Been Added

Ford unveiled a Ford GT Liquid Carbon Edition at the Chicago Auto Show that looks amazing and offers better performance. This version brings you 660 horsepower, new buttress air ducts, larger intercoolers, and a new premium Akrapovic titanium exhaust to offer you the added performance you’re looking for in your supercar.
