Extra Large SUVs to Choose From in 2022

Not everyone needs extra large SUVs, but they do serve a specific market of buyers who need a lot of passenger and cargo volume, plus towing power that rivals full-size trucks. As you might suspect, this isn’t a huge category, but there are plenty of options, and it’s quite competitive within the options that are available. Let’s take a look at some nice choices for 2022.

Ford Expedition

The Ford Expedition has been around for a while in the extra large SUV segment. The MSRP starts at $49,625, but the average price paid is usually over $50,000. The Expedition offers buyers a powerful engine, great towing capacity, good fuel economy for the class, and a very spacious cabin. RWD is standard on the Expedition, but 4WD is available. An automatic transmission paired with a twin-turbo V6 is the standard powertrain.

Jeep Wagoneer

The Jeep Wagoneer is new on the scene, and it features one of the higher starting prices at $68,845. If you’ve been waiting for an extra large Jeep SUV, the Wagoneer is it with its standard V8 engine, smooth ride, roomy interior, and excellent towing capacity. Despite its high starting price, the Wagoneer does offer a ton of standard features and the interior delivers an almost luxurious experience. For some, this might be worth the price tag.

GMC Yukon XL

The GMC Yukon XL starts at a competitive price of $52,100, which is right in line with most of this class. For that price, you’ll get a massive cargo storage area, very adult-friendly rear seats, a choice of powerful engines, and a surprisingly relaxed ride. Standard equipment on the GMC Yukon XL includes RWD, a V8 engine paired with an automatic transmission, and tech niceties like a backup camera, cruise control, anti-theft system, keyless start, and much more.

Chevy Suburban

The Chevy Suburban is one of the oldest nameplates on this list and a stablemate of the GMC Yukon XL. It starts at a price that is only a few hundred more than the GMC Yukon XL, and it offers similar features in a powerful engine lineup, a very roomy interior, a long list of standard tech and safety features, plus a user-friendly entertainment system. The standard powertrain is exactly the same as the GMC Yukon XL, and many of the interior features are the same as well.

Nissan Armada

Even its name sounds big, but the Nissan Armada starts at a lower price than many SUVs in this class at $48,900, and it offers a classy interior with a lot of features. The passenger volume is comfortable and more than adequate, however, the Armada does lack cargo space compared to many of its competitors. The standard V8 engine is also not quite as fuel-efficient as some of the other SUVs mentioned.

If you’re looking to choose extra large SUVs for 2022, we’d have to recommend the GMC Yukon XL for a nice balance of price, power, and features.
