The Future of Supercars is Electrifying: The Honda NSX Is Coming

An all-new supercar is in development and not only will it be sleeker and more powerful than ever, it will have an all-electric powertrain. Honda and Acura have been hinting about the Honda NSX supercar for years, and it finally seems to be in the works. Now, like with most other supercars, you probably won’t see it sitting on the lot alongside the Integra or MDX, at your Honda or Acura dealer, but it will be available for sale sometime in the future.

Lets Start at the Beginning

The first Acura NSX arrived in 1991 with a 3.0-liter V-6 engine that generated 270 horsepower. The most recent version bumped things up to 520 horsepower with its 3.5-liter V-6. So, what’s the next step? Apparently, it’s electricity. The new fully electric NSX will be the first model to come off of Honda’s new EV platform, and the goal is to exceed the impressive 520 horsepower.

What to Expect from the New NSX

Honda’s CEO has confirmed that they a researching an EV sports car, but stopped short of providing any details about what the actual production version will look like. It was revealed that the NSX will be built on the 0 series platform and use the halo model. Honda execs also said that the new model will take some inspiration from the Saloon concept vehicle.

The Honda Saloon Concept

The Honda Saloon EV concept looks like it came right off the screen of a science fiction movie. It is extra aerodynamic to maximize efficiency, but it has the proportions of a station wagon to give passengers plenty of space in the cabin. The Saloon that eventually makes its way to Honda and Acura dealers sometime in 2026 or 2027 will be the first of the Honda Zero Series. The electric platform will have a high-density battery that can go from a 15 percent charge to 80 percent in just 10 or 15 minutes.

The Zero Series EVs

The Saloon will be the first model in the Zero Series, but Honda has plans for several more. These will not only have a sleek, cutting-edge design and brand-new electrical system, but they will also have more advanced driver-assisted technology. The new tech will use artificial intelligence and other innovations to provide the driver and passengers with a more human-like experience and to offer some hands-free autonomous driving capabilities.

The company expects these more advanced features to eventually trickle down to the more affordable, mass-produced models.

An Electric Powered NSX: Just Wait and See What’s Coming

There are not a lot of official details about the future NSX EV yet, but the confirmation that one is coming gives us a lot to think about. The power will most likely come from either GM’s Ultium technology or Acura could develop their own, but either way, the goal is to exceed the current NSX’s zero to 60 time of three seconds.
