Whether you’re just looking to buy a Toyota, or you can’t decide between a sedan, four-door truck, or an SUV, your local Toyota dealer has three vehicles you need to test drive. The Toyota Camry sedan, Tacoma pickup, and 4Runner SUV are arguably the automaker’s flagship models, but they’re also at or near the top of their respective segments. Let’s take a look.
Toyota Tacoma
The Toyota Tacoma has long been one of the stalwarts of the midsize pickup category. It’s also one of Toyota’s most recognizable nameplates. Affectionately called “Taco” by its legions of fans, the Toyota Tacoma is a must-drive if you’re looking for a truck. The Tacoma offers an impressive eight trim levels, which include a few levels of off-road models as well.
Hardcore off-road enthusiasts will likely go for the TRD Off-Road trim, but if you just want some extra equipment for trail riding, then the TRD Sport is a good fit. Most models of the Toyota Tacoma are just as competent on the road as off. However, it’s worth noting that the Tacoma driving experience always feels bigger than it is simply due to its ride height.
Toyota 4Runner
It’s hard to argue against the Toyota 4Runner being one of the automaker’s flagship models, and it’s certainly the current face of the SUV lineup. For decades now, the 4Runner has carved out an enthusiastic following thanks to its strong off-road capability and traditional SUV construction. The current model is one of the best-looking 4Runners yet with rugged lines and an aggressive stance.
If you’re looking for a four-door SUV, and especially if you’re looking for a traditional SUV, you can’t miss taking the Toyota 4Runner for a test drive. This capable SUV rides on the same platform as the Toyota Tacoma and it features the same 4.0-liter V6 engine. Compared to many turbocharged models out there, the 4Runner’s V6 is naturally aspirated and makes a healthy 270 horsepower.
It can tow up to 5,000 pounds, which is generally good enough for most medium trailers. Where the 4Runner really stands out is its off-road ability. Off-road, the Toyota 4Runner does well with its 9.6 inches of ground clearance and various upgrades across different trims.
Toyota Camry
Last but not least on the must-drive list for Toyota is the venerable Camry. This four-door sedan has been Toyota’s best-selling model for a long time. In fact, it often finds itself the best-selling model in America after the Ford F-150. The Camry may not be the fanciest or most thrilling sedan on the market, but it’s reliable, spacious, and offers a lot of options.
One thing Toyota does well, aside from its legendary reliability, is to offer a lot of trim choices. The Camry is no different with 13 models to choose from. The base Camry models are wonderfully affordable with prices below $30,000. But if you want more options and a V6, most of the upper trims come in at under $40,000.
There’s a high chance that one of these Toyota models will impress you enough to leave the lot with it. Head to your nearest Toyota dealer for a test drive!
