After years of looking like a dorky hatchback, the Nissan Leaf got a serious makeover for 2026. The Platinum Plus trim costs around $40,000 and comes with a 75-kWh battery that pushes out 214 horsepower through a single electric motor. You’ll get 259 miles of range, which isn’t bad, but other trims do better because the Platinum Plus rides on heavy 19-inch wheels. The best part? It can now enjoy Tesla Supercharger access thanks to the built-in NACS charging port, though having two separate charging ports (one for fast charging, one for Level 2) seems needlessly confusing.
Going inside with a fantastic Nissan Leaf redesign
The interior feels premium with a Bose Personal Plus sound system that has speakers in the headrests, dual 14.3-inch screens, and heated everything. The back seat is tight on space, and calling this thing an electric SUV is a stretch since it’s front-wheel drive only with hatchback ground clearance. At least it rides better than the old Leaf and handles curves without feeling like a boat. Bottom line: Nissan caught up to the competition but didn’t really leap ahead of anyone.
Lower trims make for an even more affordable electric car
The base model, S trim, of the new Nissan Leaf is the only version that comes with a 52-kWh battery pack. This trim is easily one of the most affordable electric cars on the market, coming in at less than $30,000, but it’s worth the added cost to step up to at least the S Plus trim. Of course, if you want to enjoy the most equipment and best features offered for this affordable EV, the Platinum Plus trim is the right choice for your driving experience.
What is the driving range of the new Leaf?
The third-generation Nissan Leaf has a few trims, giving you various driving ranges. The S+ has the highest range at 303 miles per charge, but the SV+ does pretty well with 288 miles of range. As mentioned above, the 2026 Nissan Leaf Platinum Plus has 259 miles of driving range, which is the same figure provided by earlier models of the Chevrolet Bolt EV. The driving range for the base S trim hasn’t been released, but it should be much less than the other three trims, which might make the S model a good choice if you do most of your driving in the city.
Charging could be much faster
The charging time for the new Nissan Leaf is estimated to be 35 minutes, taking the EV from 10 to 80 percent of its driving range. The two different charging ports make it easy for drivers to choose various stations to charge up the Leaf. The two charging ports are on either side of the vehicle, which means you don’t need an adapter plug to get hooked up; simply choose the right side of the vehicle for the station you’ve chosen.
Making use of space in the 2026 Nissan Leaf Platinum Plus
The new Leaf brings a modern and minimalist design theme to the market, giving you the lines you want and some excellent features right in front of you. The horizontal lines on the dashboard allow the car to provide a sense of width and spaciousness. The shift button is moved to the dashboard to provide space on the center console for two large cupholders and additional space for small items in the console storage area. There are even USB-C ports for the rear passengers in the top trim.
