An Automotive Woodstock that Happens Every Year

An Automotive Woodstock that Happens Every Year

Those who are familiar with what Woodstock was or that attended this historic music festival most likely have some wonderful memories of the event and what took place. This long music explosion that played to massive crowds in Woodstock, NY was one of the largest gatherings of musicians and fans in recorded history. While many younger readers might not understand this reference, and I might be dating myself a bit, you can understand the idea of a place that offers what feels like a large party to celebrate music and fun that can take several days.

The automotive industry has a similar party and they have it every year. The Goodwood Festival of Speed is held in England on a sprawling 12,000-acre estate that is pristinely groomed and manicured for most of the year but is torn up by those that attend this amazing festival once a year. The open and welcome feeling of this festival allows those of use that might never get to see or experience some of the cars we admire up front the ability to do so. There is a bit of a corporate presence, but none that makes it feel like this festival is all about taking your money.

Instead of trying to take your hard earned money what this amazing event offers is the ability to see and admire something forms every part of the history of motorsport which has spanned more than 100 years already. You can see famous Formula One cars on display, some of the most unique cars to be built such as the Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione II that has Martini Racing stripes or a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren to make it easy for you to see something rare and special up close.

The event is also host to the Hill Climb portion which offers you a succession of cars that roll up a 1.16-mile track to show you the beauty and the elegance of cars and motorcycles that are amazing to see. This is an event that showed us a 1,200 horsepower Porsche 917/30 Can-Am and a Mazda B2000 stadium truck with a rotary engine during the same group to give us something special and impressive to see. You might even see a 1950s Ferrari or an F1 car from the 1980s that you’ll be amazed by and ready to let your breath be taken away.

This one event at this location each year brings in a crowd that admires the way motorized vehicles and man can meet together and be offered as the place that you can see the beauty of the estate as the backdrop to the tents that house amazing racing machines. You’ll see a variety of t-shirt clad spectators walking around to get an up close and personal look at the variety of models offered as an accessible aspect of this event. The Goodwood Festival of Speed is easily one of the most unique and fun to attend events held each year.
