Expected Protection

Expected Protection

When you shut the door of your vehicle and head out for a drive you expect your door to remain shut while you’re on the road until you park and are ready to get out of the vehicle at the destination you choose. What you don’t expect is for your car doors to open while you’re driving down the road and you certainly don’t think your doors are going to trap you in the car and keep you from getting out and be able to enjoy where you’ve driven to. Both of these situations can be extremely frightening and leave you feeling helpless.
Unfortunately, Ford is facing this issue with several of its vehicles and owners need to be aware of the fact there is a pending recall that addresses this issue. The doors on some models from Ford could either not latch properly causing you to have doors that fly open when you’re driving or close and latch to the point of being unable to be opened when you arrive at your destination. Thankfully, the number of different models from Ford this recall affects is small, but it is the most popular model in the lineup that faces this issue.

Detailing the Recall

The models from Ford that are being recalled are the F-150 pickup trucks from the 2015-2017 model years and the 2017 Super Duty models. This recall amounts to about 1.3 million trucks that need to be brought in to have the doors checked to make sure the problem isn’t present. The Ford service center near you will be able to take a look at your truck to see if the problem exists and needs to be corrected so that you can continue to drive without any worry of having doors that don’t function properly.
The problem with the doors is the actuation cable which can bend or become a hazard to cause the doors to either not open at all or keep them from closing properly and fully engage the way they are supposed to. These doors could cause injuries and certainly, might cause you to be in an accident because of the potential for the doors to fly open while you’re driving down the road. Thankfully, to this point, Ford isn’t aware of any accidents or injuries that have resulted from these faulty latches and the cable being in the way.
If your truck is part of the recall, you need to see your nearby Ford dealer right away. The dealer service team will install water shields over the door latches and inspect and repair the door latch actuation cables if needed without charging any customers for this service. This can ensure your truck is made to function the way it should once again and help you avoid doors that might fly open while you’re driving and ensure you don’t get trapped inside your vehicle and have a hard time getting out enjoying the reason you drove to the destination you came to in your truck.
